Projects :: Crisis Intervention Teams

The church is well-placed to offer assistance to those who have been traumatized. Part of its mandate is to assist the community both practically and spiritually. The church ought to be seen as a source of assistance and healing by the community. A further advantage is that the church has an extended sphere of influence in the community, due to its vast membership.

The concept of Crisis Intervention Teams involves training members of the local church to adequately deal with traumatic events and to assist those traumatized with immediate and ongoing support. Crisis Intervention Teams will consists of members of the local community who will more adequately understand the cultural and language needs of the community. The team’s members will also be aware of existing community resources. The Crisis Intervention Team’s local church will be able to offer further assistance in terms of emergency shelter, food, clothing etc.

Crisis Intervention Teams will receive the most up-to-date training available required in order to fulfill their mission. Advanced training will also be provided should teams so require. Our aim is to train individuals who will become trainers themselves.

Crisis Intervention Teams will work as autonomous bodies who are accountable to their local church and NOT Crisis Support Services. However, Crisis Support Services will continue to assist with ongoing training and supervision. This will ensure a standardized service of high quality, in addition to caring for the emotional well-being of team members, thereby ensuring the sustainability of the service.

Crisis Intervention Teams in previously disadvantaged communities may struggle financially; therefore Crisis Support Services will raise the necessary training funds for both training and the required supervision.
